Quebec television host and actress Vanessa Pilon has revealed that she has been diagnosed with Lyme disease after being bitten by a tick, sharing the news with her followers to raise awareness.
In a message posted to Instagram, Pilon described how the illness has affected her, writing that she feels very unwell. She accompanied the post with a photo showing her looking visibly fatigued, underscoring the seriousness of the condition.
She also used her experience as a warning, urging people to carefully check their bodies after spending time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas. Pilon emphasized that ticks—particularly in their nymph stage—can be extremely small and easy to miss.
According to her, the tick that bit her was “as big as a pinhead,” highlighting how difficult it can be to detect these insects before they transmit infection.
Despite feeling unwell, Pilon noted that she received medical care quickly, which significantly improves the chances of effective treatment and recovery.
What to know about Lyme disease
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted through the bite of infected black-legged ticks (often called deer ticks). Early symptoms can include:
- A circular or “bullseye” rash
- Fever and chills
- Fatigue
- Headaches and muscle aches
If not treated early, the infection can progress and affect the joints, nervous system, or heart.
By sharing her story, Vanessa Pilon is helping bring attention to the importance of early detection, prompt treatment, and simple preventive steps like checking for ticks after outdoor activities.
