The situation in southwestern France remains extremely critical as massive wildfires continue to rage across the Gironde region near Bordeaux, destroying homes, injuring firefighters, and forcing tens of thousands to flee. Authorities report that at least 240 houses have been destroyed, while 75 firefighters have been injured since the fires began, with approximately 42,000 hectares of land already burned.
A massive emergency response is underway, with 2,500 firefighters battling the blaze, supported by 18 aircraft, 1,500 military personnel, and 1,200 police and gendarmes. Authorities confirmed that a military A400M aircraft will again be deployed to assist in water-dropping operations as conditions remain very unfavorable. International assistance has also arrived, with Croatian firefighting aircraft conducting multiple missions and dropping significant amounts of water over affected areas.
Officials warn that the fire remains uncontained and continues to spread due to dry conditions and shifting winds. While Bordeaux itself is not currently under evacuation orders, authorities have urged residents to remain prepared for any possible escalation. Wildlife has also been impacted, with reports and images showing animals fleeing burning forest areas in panic.
