The Dundee, Michigan community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Harvey Wayne Richards, 14, who was killed in a tragic early morning crash involving a four-wheeler and an SUV in Summerfield Township. The devastating incident also left a 17-year-old teen critically injured.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 5:03 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, to the area of Bacon Road south of Todd Road following reports of a serious collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that a black Chevrolet Traverse was backing out of a private driveway when it was struck on the front passenger side by a Honda TRX250 four-wheeler traveling southbound on Bacon Road.
Authorities said Harvey Richards and the 17-year-old were riding the ATV at the time of the crash. Investigators reported that neither teen was wearing a helmet, and both were ejected from the vehicle, coming to rest on the roadway south of the point of impact.
Harvey Wayne Richards was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old rider was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators also determined that the four-wheeler did not have a functioning headlight and was not authorized for use on public roadways.
The occupants of the SUV, a 54-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man from Petersburg, were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the collision.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether alcohol played any role.
Harvey’s sudden passing has left family, friends, classmates, and the Dundee community grieving the loss of a young life taken far too soon. Loved ones are also keeping the injured teen in their thoughts as he continues to fight for recovery.
