Jonaiki Martínez-Estrella, the man convicted in connection with the killing of Lesandro “Junior” Guzmán-Félix, has died while serving his sentence in a New York state prison.
According to reports, Martínez-Estrella, 31, was found unresponsive in his cell at Coxsackie Correctional Facility on June 27, 2025. Prison staff attempted life-saving measures, but he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death.
Martínez-Estrella was one of several individuals convicted in the 2018 killing of 15-year-old Junior Guzmán-Félix, a case that shocked New York City and drew widespread national attention. Prosecutors said he inflicted the fatal neck wound during the attack, which occurred after the teenager was mistakenly identified as a rival gang member.
