The Canadian football community is mourning the tragic loss of Jayden Dalke, a Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker and team captain who died in a car accident on Saturday evening at the age of 30.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders confirmed his passing on July 19, describing it as a devastating loss for the organization, his family, teammates, and fans. In a heartfelt tribute, the team remembered Dalke as “a relentless warrior on the field” whose determination and work ethic inspired those around him.
“Jayden had a unique gift of making the people around him feel special and valued. No one ever left a conversation with him without a smile. On and off the field, he was the true definition of what it means to be a Saskatchewan Roughrider,” the team shared.
A native of Leduc, Alberta, Dalke was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 CFL Draft after a standout collegiate career with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Over four seasons, he became one of the team’s most respected leaders, appearing in 68 regular-season games and recording 69 defensive tackles, 31 special teams tackles, three forced fumbles, one interception, and one quarterback sack. He also played a key role in helping Saskatchewan secure the 2025 Grey Cup championship.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Dalke was admired for his leadership, humility, and genuine care for others. Teammates and coaches often spoke of his positivity and his ability to bring people together, making him a natural leader both in the locker room and within the community.
Stewart Johnston also paid tribute, describing Dalke as “a passionate competitor who played with incredible heart,” while extending condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community.
The Roughriders expressed deep sympathy to Dalke’s family, acknowledging their constant support throughout his journey. “Our hearts go out to the entire Dalke family, who traveled the country to watch Jayden live his dream. We will miss him terribly and will never forget the impact he had on our lives and our team,” the club said.
